Report on the public opinion poll in Wanchai District

The 1997 issue concerns the future of everyone in Hong Kong. Therefore, the unofficial members of the Wanchai District Board set up a 'Public Opinion Poll Committee' to assess the opinions of Wanchai residents. Results of the poll will be forwarded to the Chinese and British authorities.

Targets were The poll was conducted by means of questionnaire. sampled one from every ten voters registered in Wanchai district and a total of 4,600 questionnaires were sent out by mail on April 30. Up to May 5, the deadline for returning the questionnaires, a total of 1,116 returns were received by mail.

The findings of the poll are as follows:

1. China had openly stated that after 1997, Hong Kong's political system will remain unchanged and that the existing laws as well as freedom of speech, religion, assmebly, travel, the press, etc. will be pre- served. Do you have faith in this statement?
