Capital Works Programme

18.

The Capital Works Programme (sometimes

referred to as the Public Works Programme) consists

of land acquisition, buildings, engineering works

(including civil engineering and highways), new

towns and public housing (other than public housing

constructed by the Hong Kong Housing Authority) and

waterworks projects which have been approved by

the Finance Committee of the Hong Kong Legislative

Council for implementation.

19.

The government's Estimates for the 1984-85

financial year indicate that, as at 31 March 1984,

approved projects in the Capital Works Programme at

a total estimated cost of HK$50,000 million were in

various stages of development and that a total of

HK$23,000 million remained to be expanded on these

projects. As some of these projects are completed,

new projects will from time to time be added to

the Capital Works Programme, having regard to approved

policies and programmes and the constraints of

financial and land resources.
