D 43- A report in Die Welt, Hamburg, on Taiwan's ocean research
quotes the Vice President of the National Research Council of the Chinese Republic, Wang Chi-Wu, on the occasion of the maiden voyage of the Taiwanese ship "Ocean Researcher I" from Bergen (Norway) to Taiwan. He made the suggestion that Canada and Australia should accept large contingents of Hong Kong Chinese refugees wishing to leave Hong Kong in 1997 as they are such thinly populated countries with generous natural resources. He said that Taiwan was naturally willing to accept as many refugees as possible but that the island could not possibly take all the expected refugees.
