Drunkenness on Duty

51. Section 26 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1970 contains

penalties for seamen found drunk on duty on fishing vessels

but not for the masters of these vessels. The proposed amendment

would extend the penalties to masters, to remove this anomaly.

Unauthorised Liquor on Fishing Vessels

Section 25 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1979 makes it an

offence to bring unauthorised liquor on board a fishing vessel.

This section has never been brought into operation because it

would not be enforceable and it is therefore proposed to repeal

it.
