CALL ON PUS BY PERMANENT SECRETARY, NZ MFA, 2 OCTOBER 1984
1. Mr Mervyn Norrish, Permanent Secretary of the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will be calling on the PUS on Tuesday 2 October. He will be in London accompanying his Minister (Mr Lange, who is also Prime Minister) during the latter's guest-of-government visit. (For Defence Department only: Mr Chick's minute of 14 September to the PS/PUS refers).
2. SPD have been asked to provide briefing in time for the PUS's box on Monday 1 October, and would be grateful if addressee departments would provide contributions in draft form, in the usual format of points to make and essential background, for incorporation into a single consolidated brief (which SPD will draw up). The subjects and departments are:
Ships' visits to New Zealand
Falklands/UN
Security of Small States
S Pacific Nuclear Free Zone
Hong Kong
Defence Department

If the briefing which some departments have already provided for Mr Lange's meetings with the Secretary of State and the Prime Minister can be used, please let me know.
