I believe that any specific assurance on nationality would be much less easy and could be a hostage to fortune. Even a general undertaking to bear the interests of BDTC's in mind would arouse false hopes and would be quoted back in the context of undertakings to look after British nationals.
The Secretary of State may wish to discuss this at his meeting today.
