Hong Kong has achieved remarkable economic growth. The

industrial workforce grew from 64,000 in 1947 to 589,500 in 1970 and

900,000 in 1981. GDP per capita in 1981 was US $4697. Foreign

trade in 1982 amounted to about US $42,000 million (imports US

$22,000 million, exports US $20,000 million including reexports US

$7000 million).
