Dear Cullimore, Mr Roger Henning
Bee (9)
In our telegram number 223 of 15 July 1983, we asked you to let Martin Berthoud in Sydney know that Mr Roger Henning had a bonafide connection with No 10, and that requests to transmit information privately to No 10 from Mr Henning should therefore be accepted and handled in the most appropriate way.
I enclose a letter which John Coles has recently received from Donald Pragnell in Sydney enclosing a copy of a letter from Henning. It is evident from Pragnell's letter that he is unaware of the contents of our earlier telegram. No harm has been done, but I would be grateful if you could ensure that anyone in Sydney likely to receive an approach from Mr Henning is aware of the background. I realise that it is awkward for Sydney to handle classified material. But this is a real channel which No 10 take seriously and I hope that ways can be found to get material to No 10 promptly and securely.
CAK Cullimore Esq CANBERRA
You ever,
Peter Rickett
(P F Ricketts) Private Secretary
