3. I should add that, on the way out, Mr Staples said that he hoped very much that Mr Luce would be able to come to Thailand in the autumn. If developments in Hong Kong meant that he had to devote most of his energies to a visit there rather than to his planned South East Asian tour, a short stop-over in Bangkok on the way back would still be worth considering. The Thais would hope for a good visit but were flexible: a fleeting visit could if necessary be set up at very short notice.
