5. Later in January, Mass Transit Railway train operators went on
strike over flexible rostering proposals. However, this was resolved within 3 days with minimal inconvenience to public. Kong Government have also reduced proposed increases in
cross-harbour tunnel charges and postponed announcement of these
until Budget speech. No other major increases in fee or charges have been announced since taxi dispute.

Some commentators see disturbances as symptom of deep-seated
resentment of colonial attitudes of Hong Kong government and
uncertainty over territory's political future. If true, this could
also cause anti-expatriate feelings and affect ability of Government
to maintain order as 1997 approaches.
