OBJECTIVE
1.
To reassure the people of Hong Kong of HMG's continuing
commitment to the territory and to contribute to the maintenance of confidence.
BACKGROUND TO THE VISIT
2.
Mr Luce last visited Hong Kong from 24-28 September 1983.
3. Mr Walker (Secretary of State for Energy) visited the territory
from 9-10 November 1983.
4. Mr Channon (Minister for Trade) will pay a visit from 1-4 March followed by the Secretary of State (27-29 April) (subject to political circumstances) and Mr Stanley (Defence) (29 April-1 May) Mr Baker (Minister for Information Technology) and Mr Tebbit (Secretary of State for Trade & Industry) may also visit Hong Kong later in
1984.
