The Secretary of State has taken.exception to the inaccurate and snide articles filed by Simon Winchester (the Sunday Times) and Edward Steen (Sunday Telegraph) from Hong Kong. (copies attached). After considering the Hong Kong press summaries prepared by the Government Information Services in Hong Kong, the Secretary of State has suggested that Mr Luce should send copies of the GIS summary to the editors of the Sunday Times and Sunday Telegraph under cover of a letter, bringing out the contrast between the actual reaction in Hong Kong, and that reported by Messrs Winchester and Steen.
I attach draft letters from Mr Luce to the editors of the Sunday Times and Telegraph. HKD agree.
