The meeting was opened by Mrs. Lasan who thanked the participants for their attendance. She informed the meeting that since the last

meeting three countries, the Federal Republic of Germany, Belgium and Japan have expressed their interest and willingness to participate in

resettlement meetings, however, due to previous commitments, they are

unable to attend this particular one.

Mrs. Lasan expressed UNHCR's appreciation for those attending the meeting for the first time and introduced Mr. Halvorsen, the Consulate General of Norway, Mr. Nielsen from Denmark and Mr. J. Sureck, Regional Director for the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service. She also introduced UNHCR's new Deputy Charge de Mission, Mr. P. Meijer,

who has replaced Mr. Hall.

(1) Amendment/Approval of the minutes of 11 April 1983 Meeting

...

(a) Item (3) page 2 should read, "under this new procedure 200 refugees a month will be considered from April to September

1983!'.

(b) Item (7) last page should have the following additional

paragraph, "One other possibility of being resettled in the states is the fiance non-immigrant visa, whereby the party in the states may file a petition with the authorities for the other party to enter the U.S.A. as long as they are married

within six months.

(c) Under item (3) page 3 under the heading for Canada, the 175

government sponsored places mentioned is Canada's total quota.
