Legal assistance from the relevant overall allocation was provided in 1982 to cover lawyers' fees on behalf of individual cases, while assistance towards voluntary repatriation was also financed from the overall allocation for this purpose. Obligations were $ 6,726 and $ 98 respectively. In the current year, an amount of $ 21,000 has been obligated so far from the overall allocation for legal assistance and an amount of $ 10,755 from the overall allocation for supplementary aid.
Programme support and administration

An amount of $ 471,168 was obligated in 1982 against an allocation of $475,000. The Unit of the Legal Adviser for Asia (one P-5, one P-3 and one local General Service) has been relocated, effective April 1983, to Bangkok. As a result of this transfer and of favourable exchange and inflation rates, it is possible to reduce the initial 1983 allocation from $ 537,500 to $331,500. The proposed 1984 staffing table for this location reflects the redistribution of posts between regular budget and voluntary funds (referred to in the programme support and administration section of the Introduction to this document) which will be subject to the approval of the United Nations General Assembly. The proposed allocation for 1984, which is affected by these changes, as indicated in Annex III, is estimated at $ 301,300.

In 1982, the ELC contributed an amount of $184,502 to help improve the physical and mental health of Vietnamese refugees in hong kong. The assistance took the form of services for the benefit of elderly refugees, children and adolescents, as well as procurement of medicines, nutrition supplements and clothing.
