(a) Shekou SIZ

14 km2 developed.

Infrastructure to be complete in

Produce 12 15 a year, mainly for USA and Australia (cost HK$380,000).

Wharf completed (about 150 m. long) and operational from May 1983. 8 m. depth of water vessels up to 5,000 tdw can berth. Future wharf planned to west to take vessels up to 50,000 tdw (12m. depth of water). Western area to handle seaborne freight for SEZ. Eastern area to be site of oil support base. In neither area has any development other than levelling begun. No road access yet. (Where oil from off-shore rigs will come ashore, site of possible refinery, etc. not yet decided - probably north of SIZ).

(b) Na Tau Control Station

Biggest control station on northern boundary, where latter intersects main Guangzhou-SEZ highway. Large passenger checking (10 coaches at a time) and administration buildings, with vehicle checking facilities for three lanes of traffic in each direction (see photos).

Northern boundary will have 5 control stations plu: 29 controlled crossing pc nts. Will be paved for at least part of its length. Personnel for checking and patrolling (People's Arm Poli) will number about 5,000.
