Review
Mr. Zhen and Mr. McLaren agreed that the joint working groups set up under last Aprifs agreement had achieved steady and useful progress over the past year, especially during the six months since the last review meeting in Hong Kong in October 1982. Of the original four joint working groups, the one on Shenzhen River Controls had been split into two (flood controls; ollution control), and a new working group on the redevelopment of Lo Wu/Shenzhen railway stations had been added. The various working
groups had met on 29 occasions so far and a great deal of patient co-operation on technical matters had been achieved. Mr. McLaren emphasised that very good foundations now existed for the future v rk of the working groups. He stressed that the groups nay encou ter practical limits regarding substantial engineering works requiring particul- arly heavy expenditure but that there was no limit to the Hong Kong side's good will.
