Employment on building and construction (including

civil engineering) sites declined by 8% for 1982 as a whole,

although there was a small increase of 1%

of 1% during the three

months ending December 1982. The decrease was concentrated on

private building sites, where employment dropped by 19%;

employment on public building sites rose slightly, by 18.

Employment on civil engineering sites, however, continued to

increase rapidly, by 16%.

This increase was mainly

attributable to the construction of the MTR Island Line.
