Since the influx of illegal immigrants has

diminished, the labour force participation rate (4) and the size of the population of working age became the major factors affecting the growth rate of the supply of labour. Affected

by demographic patterns, the population of working age increased slightly in the first half of this year. As the labour force participation rate was relatively stable, there was only a small increase in the supply of labour during this period (5).

(4) The labour force participation rate is defined as the proportion of the economically active population working or seeking work. The labour force participation rate was 64% in the second quarter, compared with 63.8% in the first quarter of 1983 and 64.4% in the fourth quarter of 1982.
