The tael price of gold on the Chinese Gold and
Silver Exchange showed a similar pattern. Having risen
HK$3,956 per tael on 16th February, the price plunged to HK$3,196 on 1st March a fall of HK$760 in two weeks. It
then fluctuated between HK$3,200 and HK$3,450, before closing
the month at HK$3,313, 5.1% lower than at the end of 1982.
