VISITORS TO HONG KONG

211 When Dr Hase called me this morning, he reported on a number of interesting forthcoming visitors to Hong Kong:
a) Mr Robert Adley MP has apparently contacted the Hong Kong X
Tourist Association with a view to visiting Hong Kong this month. They told him that it was very difficult to get a hotel room now and advised him to wait until December. The Hong Kong Government Office are trying to find out more about this, and in particular why Mr Adley wishes to go to Hong Kong
now.
b) Lord Chalfont will be in Hong Kong on 28-29 October to chair a conference on Political and Economic Development in Asia. Henry Kissinger will give the keynote speech.
c) Lord Ennals, Chairman of the Asian Committee of the British Refugee Council, will be making a Hong Kong Government-sponsored visit on 9-13 December. Martin Barber of the BRC is keen to go also: the Hong Kong Government are trying to raise the funds to sponsor a visit by him in spring 1984.
d) The Radio 4 Today programme will be broadcasting live from Hong Kong on 20, 21 and 24 October. On 20 October they will have MPS Lyell and Brown (both already in Hong Kong) giving instant reactions live to whatever statement emerges from the talks. They have an interview with Sir J Bremridge scheduled for 21 October and a panel including T L Tsim (columnist), Anna Wu (Observers) and Dr Denny Huang (Urbco) on 24 October.
2. Dr Hase also said that Mr Warren Christopher (former US Deputy Secretary of State and apparently still of some importance in the Democratic Party) called recently on Hong Kong Government officials. He is considering setting up a branch of his law firm in Hong Kong.
