1. At No 10's request, Mr Luce spoke last night to Mr Robert Adley about the unhelpful letter which he has written
2. to the Prime Minister, and which he was threatening to make
public. There was a tough exchange, in the course of which Mr Adley took the line that, since he was being told nothing in private, he had no option but to go public. At the end of the conversation, Mr Adley agreed to consider further whether to publish his letter. He gave no undertaking; but there is now a fair chance that he will not do so.
