We assume however, that he will call on the Secretary of State, the Prime Minister, the Chancellor of the Exchequer and possibly one or two other Cabinet Ministers. If possible we shall wish to avoid pre-empting the substantive content of Sir G Howe's visit. However, I expect that if the visit takes place, briefs will be required at least on subjects (a) (b) (d) (g) (h) (i) (j) and (n) in para 2 above plus possibly coverage of ASEAN affairs. Departments should be ready to produce something at short notice with a deadline of close of play on 30 June.
