bend. Some confusion among others over Secretary-General's
initiative.
d)
Iran/Iraq
Secretary-General hoped to get protagonists together
during General Assembly with mediator Palme as latter keen
to visit war zone. But no progress.
e) Falklands
Secretary-General considered little new in Argentine
speech. Argentinian FM told him imminent Argentine elections
irrelevant as all parties at one over Falklands issue.
ARGENTINE STATEMENT
3.
Despite his reference to Argentina's desire for 'imaginativ
solutions' to the Falklands problem, Aguirre Lanari's speech
in the General Debate, much of which was devoted to the Falklands
question, contained nothing new and offered little hope of a
change of heart in Argentina. He also sought to make use of
remarks made by the Defence Secretary to the Georgetown Centre
in Washington on which we are submitting separately.
