There are many things we can learn from Hong Kong. One important
lesson Hong Kong is showing us is that after all human talents and not
natural resources is the key for economic progress. After the oil shock
and after the question of ecology has become a problem on a global scale,
the lesson which Hong Kong is showing us should be of universal significance.
I am certain Hong Kong will continue to render a great contribution to
the dynamic growth of the Asian and Pacific region and above all the
modernization of China, with whom Japan has pledged friendship "from
generation to generation".
