2. It purports to be a general survey of the future of Hong Kong, although the first three parts relate to the Carrian affair and to Jardine Matheson. The article then goes on to draw some superficial comparisons between Hong Kong and the PRC, and to assert that, in respect of talks about the colony's future, "Britain seems to have missed the fundamental point: Peking does not care what colonial Britain thinks or wants. will deal with the Hong Kong Chinese elite...". The article also repeats without critical comment hard-line Chinese statements on the future of the negotiations.

As seen from here the article is probably a good example of the present Chinese briefing line with journalists.
