Dear Mr. Alston,
For what it is worth, I thought you might
be interested to learn that during his recent visit to Canada the PRC foreign minister Wu had the following to say in response.to a question asked him by a Québec government minister on the future of Hong Kong.
Wu said foreign investors should not concern themselves unduly about the Hong Kong negotiations, since any outcome that the PRC agreed to would preserve Hong Kong's special trade and finance status. It would also protect private property rights.
