VISIT TO US:

WORLD ECONOMIC SCENE

The Prime Minister will wish to emphasise the need

to avoid choking off the recovery by urging the President and the Administration to live up to the commitments

agreed at Williamsburg on budget deficits and

protectionism.

Action by the Americans to implement the éDeclaration is even more important than action by other countries. In the context of the Williamsburg commitment to roll back protectionism, the Prime Minister will wish

to emphasize the need to prevent any further deviation

in relations between the United States and the European

Community. Mrs Thatcher may wish to remind the President
