I attach a draft telegram to Washington following my conversation yesterday with Mr Gomersall. Since I spoke to him we have also received telegrams from Hong Kong and Peking. These are attached.

I have had our tels 214 and 215 to Canberra repeated to Washington. I have not yet seen a copy of our reply to Peking tel 602 but it simply said 'agreed' to the suggestion that Sir P Cradock should brief his American opposite number.
3.
After our telegram has gone I will give a set of these telegrams to Mr Marshall in NAD for his personal information.
