We have been more than usually concerned in the last
year or so with issues that may seem parochial but are
difficult to solve and of considerable political interest
in Britain:
(a) the Falklands
Argentine aggression unprovoked and unjustified.
We did our utmost to find a diplomatic solution
but had no alternative in the end but to meet
force with force. In no-one's interest that aggression
be seen to succeed. In the longer term, some
accommodation with Argentina obviously desirable,
but cannot possibly negotiate until Islanders have
rec o vered from war and until there is change of
