HONG KONG INVESTMENT IN BRITAIN
We noticed that the 'GIST' round-up of TV and radio reports, dated 22 April carried a short piece reporting that the council of a town in the north of England had placed an advertisement in a Hong Kong newspaper. The advertisement encouraged local businessmen who were worried about the future to move there. The report, which was on Radio Three's 'Today' programme added that the council decided to place the advertisement after receiving a letter from a former resident of the town, now living in Hong Kong about the possible exodus from Hong Kong in 1997.
We would be grateful if you could let us know a little bit more about this, and also whether there was much local reaction to the advertisement.
