1. Sir Crispin Tickell and other officials are to meet with the Chairman of BP, Mr PI Walters and some senior executives at BP on 8 December continuing over lunch.
2.
The meeting is one of a regular series with the three major oil companies (Shell, BP and Britoil). The other FCO officials attending will be Mr Adams, Mr Donald, Mr Blatherwick (ESSD), Mr Haskell (MED), Mr Varcoe or Mr Thorpe (SAfD), Mr Johnson (ESSD) (note taker) and Mr Wiggins, Department of Energy.

I should be grateful if you would arrange for appropriate briefing to be provided in final form (points to make - pink; essential facts white) on those subjects for which your department is responsible, by close of play on Friday 2 December. The briefing should concentrate on political developments of interest to an oil major. Briefs should be sent to Mr Johnson, ESSD, Rm E 011.

ESSD will be providing briefing on specific oil-related issues in the areas involved, clearing with Departments as appropriate.
