In conclusion, on the matter of future foreign trade and international relations, he said that in the Common Market negotiations on the quota issue, Britain at present had not really considered things from the standpoint of Hongkong's interests. This makes It necessary for Hongkong to send representatives to Europe. Je believed that the foreign trade relations of Hongkong were not determined by relations between Britain and Hongkong but always depended on whether the prices of Hongkong's exports could compete with those of the Asian-Pacific region and China. At present, trade between China and Hongkong is rising sharply. This is a relatively optimistic development. As for International relations, in 10 years or so China's international status will be raised to a higher level. At that time, Hongkong's foreign trade relations will not be worse than at present. There is, therefore, no need for worry.
