because I must confess I don't quite,
what we are negotiating about with the Chinese if in fact we accept that it is their territory or most of it after
1997? It is leasehold. Do you understand what the negotiations are
about?

No because the negotiations have been
so secret, we don't know what has been discussed except the future of the Colony after the expiry date.
George Walden, can you explain, not in detail of course, because you probably don't know, what sort of settlement are
we trying to work towards?

Well I think first of all it has to be
a realistic settlement. If you look
at a map and you see where Hong Kong is you will know immediately why it has to be a realistic settlement and it has to involve a lot of co-operation between the British and the Chinese and what we
are really aiming at are arrangements to administer that territory after '97
which will allow it to continue to be
prosperous and for this, we believe quite
