It has been our editorial policy to strongly support your efforts in the current Hong Kong negotiations. the bulk of the Commonwealth of nations, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore and other points.
Lately we have become greatly alarmed over news eminating from Communist China that you have privately agreed and assured the Reds that you will support the turnover of all of Hong Kong, including Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon peninsula, to the Red regime in Peiking.
As a matter of principle, our magazine strongly supports the original treaties ceding Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula to Great Britian; and it is policy, editorially, to con- tinue to press for the continuance of this treaty. Insofar as if this is your position, we will continue to editorially support your efforts; but in all fairness, we would like your comment on this matter at the earliest possible time.
It is our trust that you will vigourously abide by the historical treaties relating to Hong Kong, and remember the 5 million residents here who are trusting there lives and future to your hands.
