THE PRIME MINISTER'S VISITS TO CANADA AND THE UNITED STATES
1.
coforin
Planning Staff has been asked to coordinate daily round- ups for the Prime Minister during her visits to Canada and the United States next week. The Prime Minister wants these to cover major international questions, as well as issues that are likely to be of particular interest to her while she is in North America. The round-ups will be copied to the Secretary of State in New York.
2.
I should be grateful if Departments would let us have succinct contributions to the round-ups (which should obviously avoid repeating information in telegrams already copied to the Prime Minister's party) by 10.30 hours each morning, from Tuesday 27 - Friday 30 September inclusive.
3.
This is a real deadline. Planning Staff are required to incorporate the contributions in one telegram for submission to Private Office. It must then be despatched to reach the Prime Minister's Private Secretary by 08.00 hours local time (ie 13.00 BST). It will only be possible to keep to this schedule if departmental contributions reach us by the 10.30 deadline. They should be delivered to Mrs Blake-Pauley in Room K113 in Planning Staff. Nil returns are required and should be phoned to Mrs Blake-Pauley (233 3307) or to Mr Manning (233 5605), again by 10.30.
4. The round-up for Monday 26 September will be compiled by the Resident Clerk over the weekend and submitted direct to the Private Office on Monday morning.
