You may be interested to know that an NCNA bulletin reported that on 7 July President Li Xiannian sent a telegrar. of condolence to R C Lee's widow. Other leaders sent similar telegrams. They were, in the order listed,. Xi . EMAIL (politburo member); Yang Shangkun (politburo member and effectively number two in the party and state military commissions); Yu Qiuli (politburo member and Director of the PLA general political department); Gu Mu (State Councillor); Ji Pengfei (State Councillor) and Qian Changzhao (CCC numbers 6929, 2490, 3564). The latter is not known to us, but the report states that he "knew Mr Lee well" Liao Chengzhi's sister and widow also sent messages.

The People's Daily of 8 July carried a short piece reporting the above on page four. R C Lee was described as "a noted public figure in Hong Kong".
