China and Britian have a good relationship. We have high regard for this relationship. Whatever we do is intended to improve this friendly relationship. Although you do not say it, I can tell you that I believe that every- thing will be settled very well. What is to be sure is that whatever changes take place in Hong Kong in future,
HSBC will continue to exist and we welcome your existence.
We are also concerned about the declining trend of the
Hong Kong Dollar. I believe that our British friends and HSBC will do whatever they can to improve the situat-
ion. I believe it is temporary, and will not last very
long. It cannot last very long. The Hong Kong Dollar
is important to China. Y
I would like to introduce Q W Lee. In Hong Kong, Wayfoong
is the largest bank and Hang Seng is the second largest.
Our relationship is very interesting. We started our
relationship in 1965 and it has proved one of the most
successful investments that any bank has made in another
bank.

Q W Lee has just taken over the Chairmanship from S H HO
who has retired after a very successful tenure. We like
to feel that the relationship between HSBC and Hang Seng is one of the best examples of a successful interracial commercial relationship in the world.
If Mr Liao and Bank of China can identify projects which with HSEC's involvement could contribute to greater harmony and prosperity we hope you will invite us to participate.
