Co ted with Hong Kong, and whose pensions or
allowances the Governor is entitled under any local law
to stop if they fail to seek prior written permission
to engage in such employment or activities, should
normally be granted such permission if they submit a
request in that behalf giving details of each appoint-
ment concerned, unless in the Governor's judgement there
are exceptional circumstances rendering it undesirable
in the public interest for them to take up any such
appointment, in which case permission may be withheld
for a period not normally exceeding two years from the
date of the officer's final departure from Hong Kong or
retirement, whichever may be the earlier.

The remaining arrangements set out in Sir Alec
Douglas-Home's Despatch of 25 May 1972 will continue to
apply.
