COMMONWEALTH LAW CONFERENCE
1. You will probably be aware that I shall also be attending this conference in Hong Kong from 19 to 23 September. There- after I shall be staying with the Governor until 1 October when I return to London.
2. In the circumstances, I think it would be helpful if you were to provide me with a copy of the brief you will be pre- paring for the Lord Chancellor and the Attorney General on the future of Hong Kong (FCO tel No.596 to Peking and Hong Kong), the more particularly as I shall be on hand to counsel discretion.
3. It would also be helpful if a member of the delegation accompanying Mr Luce on his visit to Hong Kong (I understand he will be arriving on 23 September) could carry with him_an extra copy of the briefs for me, since it seems likely that I may be involved in some of the discussions which Mr Luce will be having with the Governor during the course of his visit:
