BBC Far East Relay Station
Grateful for Hong Kong Government's agreement to make Tsang Tsui
site available to BBC. Designed to improve quality of BBC's
signal in region. Hong Kong likely to benefit, for example by
receiving BBC services much more clearly locally.

Overseas Students Fees
Pleased that agreement on joint funding scheme reached by HMG and Hong Kong Government. Hope this will lead to increase in numbers of Hong Kong students coming to UK.
Naval Deployment
Confirm deployment to Far East and Pacific is taking place from
September to March.
Hong Kong Deployment
Details of second half of group deployment
have yet to be worked out. Planning not yet complete; therefore
too soon to comment on visits which might be undertaken after
New Year.

Visit by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)
Confirm that CDS will be visiting Hong Kong from 29 September to
5 October in his capacity, as Colonel of his Regiment, the
Second Gurkha Rifles.

Understand CDS' visit was
postponed by one day for operational reasons.
