ESSENTIAL FACTS
1.
Miss Lydia Dunn, aged 43, has a degree in Business Studies
from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a Director of
John Swire and Sons (Hong Kong) Ltd, an Executive Director of Swire
Pacific Ltd, and a Chairman or Director of several companies in the Swire Group.
She is also a Director of the Mass Transit Railway
Corporation and of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank.

Miss Dunn has been a member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council since 1976 and the Executive Council, the territory's
highest advisory council, since 1982. Apart from her Chairmanship
of the Trade Development Council, her other public posts include being Chairman of the Board of the Prince Philip Dental Hospital,
Treasurer of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a member of a wide variety of other Boards and Committees, notably the Textile
Advisory Board, the Land Development Policy Committee and the Independent Commission against Corruption Complaints Committee. Until recently she was also Chairman of the Special Committee on
Land Supply and has previously been a member of inter alia the
Transport Advisory Committee and the Hong Kong Export Credit Insurance Corporation Advisory Board.
3. As the list attests, Miss Dunn is highly regarded in Hong Kong as an able and hard-working community leader whose dedication and commitment to the territory is unquestioned. She is probably the most outstanding of the group of young professional Chinese who are now rising into prominent positions in Hong Kong
4.. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council was established by statute in 1966 to promote and develop Hong Kong's international trade. It is financed by a grant from Hong Kong public funds, the proceeds of an ad valorem levy on exports and on imports other than foodstuffs and by advertising fees, sales of publications etc. Apart from its Headquarters in Hong Kong, the Council has staff in 22 cities, and consultants in three others, throughout the world.
