The British Nationality Act 1981 did nothing to alter
the immigration status of any person who previously held
citizenship of the United Kingdom and Colonies.
NOT FOR USE
We are unable to state categorically that all British
Dependent Territories Citizens will have the right of
unconditional entry into the territory from which they
required that status. Certain territories, such as
Bermuda and the Cayman Islands have difficulties over
allowing such a right to, for example, the children of
United States forces personnel born in their territories.
We hope to ensure however that these territories will
legislate so that those, of their British Dependent
Territories Citizens who hold no other national status
will be given the unconditional right of entry.
BRITISH ANTARCTIC TERRITORY
1. No indigenous population. BNA not therefore applica-
ble.
GIBRALTAR
2. The Gibraltar House of Assembly passed an Ordinance
on 24 February 1983 known as the Immigration Control
(Amendment) Ordinance 1983. The Ordinance has received
the Governor's assent and has been published in the
Gibraltar Gazette. It has yet to receive a formal
Certificate of Non Disallowance from the Secretary of
State. British Dependent Territories Citizens (BDTCs)
from Gibraltar have, by longstanding administrative con-
cession, been accorded unhindered entry to the UK.
Because of their status in the EC, under Section 5 of the
BAN they may also apply for registration as British
Citizens.
