The remaining dependent territories and population are:
Anguilla (7,000), Bermuda (55,000), British Antarctic Territory (no indigenous population), British Indian Ocean
Territory (no indigenous population), British Virgin
Islands (11,000), Cayman Islands (17,000), Falklands Islands
and Dependencies (1,800), Gibraltar (29,800), Hong Kong
(5,300,000), Montserrat (12,100), Pitcairn Group of Islands
(54), St Helena & Dependencies (Ascension and Tristan da
Cunha) (6,500), Turks and Caicos Islands (7,500).
2. British Dependent Territories Citizenship (BDTC) was
introduced to provide a distinct citizenship for those
citizens of the United Kingdom and Colonies who held that
status through a connection with a Dependent Territory.
This may be by birth, registration or naturalisation in a dependent territory or by descent from a person born,
registered or naturalised in a dependent territory. practical terms the introduction of BDTC did nothing to alter the immigration status into the UK of persons who acquired
that citizenship. The British Nationality Act 1981 did
nothing to alter the immigration status of any person who
previously held citizenship of the United Kingdom and
Colonies.
