A. General Information
The Prisoner was a rather ambitious and career-minded youth who had the wish to start his own business but he had over-estimated his own ability in the past.
deing born in a large-size lower class family with seven children, the Prisoner had experienced considerable hardships and difficulties during his childhood. His late father was a ferry coxswain, their family income was always insufficient. Consequently his two elder sisters became Primary 2 school drop-outs and had to work at a tender young age in order to supplement the family income. Though they were poor and living in some squatted area in Shek Kip Mei, their family relationship was very harmonious and their ties were strong. Both his parents, though illiterate and ignorant characters, were very nice and responsible towards the children at home. Accordingly the Prisoner had learnt to respect his parents and to love his siblings since he was small. All along he was described to be a filial and obedient son at home.
Since Prisoner's family had moved to Tsz wan Shan Estate in 1966, their living condition had greatly improved. About a year later, his two elder sisters had married off and the Prisoner thus became the eldest child . of the family and began to shoulder some responsibility of his parents to supervise younger siblings. Henceforth, their family had become more stable and happy.
Regarding Prisoner's school attainment, he was a Form 5 graduate yet with a poor school result. In 1973, he had sat for the H.K. School Certificate of Education Examination, he only passed 2 subjects out of seven he attempted. Generally he was not a bright student but he was commended to be a well-behaved person with a good conduct. After completing Form 5, he had ceased schooling and took up various commercial and English courses. In the same year, Prisoner's father had passed away due to liver cancer. Since then, the Prisoner had become the head of the family and assumed the chief bread winner's role.
Prisoner started to take up gainful employments since mid-1975. Initially he was working for Sun Kei Garment Factory as a clerk and was paid #600 monthly. Disregarding that the wage was unattractive, he had stayed on the job until he was introduced to work as a merchandising clerk for R & A Millett Co. Ltd. in September 1977.
