child's nappie. On the top of that chest of drawers was seen a gillete
safety razor with a pubic hair alongside it. The empty razor box was also
on the top of the chest of drawers nearby. There was ample evidence that
the aunt's pubic hairs had been shaved. Clusters of pubic hair were
found on the bed or the left side of her body as well as beneath her body.
Though it could not be proved scientifically whether she was shaved before
or after death there was, in my opinion, other evidence to show that she

no reason for her legs to have been secured as they were.
was shaved before her death.
The act of shaving seemed to indicate an intent to degrade and humiliate
her before killing her. No sexual interference occurred.
Circumstances leading to the arrest and charging of the defendant
11. A finger print expert found a thumb print impression on the empty gillete
razor box. The police believed, and rightly so, that the killer, or killers,
had been let into the premises and from this they inferred that the killer
was probably known to the deceaseds. Thus they interviewed all the relatives
of the deceaseds.
The defendant was interviewed as a matter of routine on the 29th September,
1980.
He made a statement saying he last visited the flat at the beginning
of July, 1980 and he gave a set of his finger prints.
These were compared
with that on the razor box with the result that the left thumb print of the
accused was found to correspond with that lifted from the razor box. The
defendant was arrested on the 1st October, 1980 when he made a statement
that same day still insisting he had not visited the flat since the
beginning of July. The finger print expert said that the impression on
the box was fresh and not older than three to four days.
