Report by R.S.{h.^. & Kin.), C.N.T.A.
Staff of CDO(E) have interviewed the parents of the prisoner, Mr. and
They were doubtful that their son had really killed the victim since they had been close friends to each other and the victim was also physically stronger. Whilst admitting that the prisoner's wayward behaviour was probably due to a lack of parental care and proper education, Mr. and Mrs. MA remarked that their son was so very much under triad influence that he had had no alternative but to toe the "criminal line". They therefore considered the death sentence imposed on their son as too harsh.
2.
Residents in the Chai Wan area including Area Committee members contacted by CLO staff had little knowledge of the prisoner or the case in question. Nevertheless their general view was that the death sentence passed was a fair punishment in view of the atrocious nature of the crime committed.
3.
CDO(C&W) staff have so far not been able to contact Madam LO Keng-fui, the mother of the victim, who was said to be visiting Mainland China and it is not known when she would be back.
4.
However, the neighbours of Madam LO and residents living in the Kennedy Town and Mt. Davis area including Area Committee members contacted generally considered the sentence imposed on the prisoner a fair one.
