In the confessions to the arresting officer MA said that after he had drunk just less than a bottle of beer he stood up and bumped into YEUNG who bit him on the hand, whereupon MA drew out a triangular file and stabbed him. After that he tied the body up and put it in the wardrobe.

Additionally after being charged, the defendant told the superintendent who charged him that he got drunk and stabbed the deceased but had not intended to kill.

Two days after the killing, MA went to an

CAMMATI acquaintance in Sai Kung looking for somewhere to stay. He told this man that he had gone to YEUNG's hut to collect. money he was owed, that YEUNG used abusive language and a fight ensued in which he pulled out a weapon. and stabbed YEUNG. In his statements to the police, MA also mentioned collecting money he was owed by the deceased and also that he had been asked to move out of the hut as a girlfriend was coming to stay.

MA also took the police to the place where he said he threw away the murder weapon and the place he said he later burnt his clothing.

The admissions to the police were objected to on the basis that they were fabrications and that the accused only signed them because he was told that if he did not his father could be prosecuted for "assisting a wanted person".
