She eventually walked to the Blue Bird Factory in Chai Wan where the deceased

was employed in making plastic toys. The deceased's colleague at the factory,

Mr LAM Kai-wai, also noticed the deceased's absence from the factory on the morning

of 26th January 1990. He telephoned the hut but also received no reply.

same afternoon as he was going back to the factory after lunch with a Mr Ko he

was met by Mrs Cheung who made enquiry of them as to whether the deceased had

gone to work that morning. As a result of what was said, the party, that is,

Mrs Cheung, Mr Lam and Mr Ko, went to the hut and after encountering some

difficulty in opening the locks pushed the hut door open and the three of them,

after poing inside, found the body of the deceased partly inside a wardrobe with

his feet sticking outside. The face of the deceased was covered with a towel

which was attached firstly to the head by means of a wire looped round the head

and the lower part of the towel was also attached to the neck by means of a wire

loop. The deceased was dressed only in a singlet and underpants both of which were

considerable bloodstained, both his wrists were tied together with several rounds of

wire and so also were his ankles. The police were immediately called, and their

examination revealed a large patch of blood near the wardrobe, the door of which was

open. The top hinge of the door was extremely loose and the other hinge had been

forced out of the wardrobe altogether. When the body was removed from the wardrobe a

recently bored hole about 1 inch wide and 1% to 2 inches long was seen at the

bottom right hand corner of the wardrobe floor. The hole was crudely made and

there were wood splinters found under the wardrobe floor. There was no clothing

in the wardrobe but a large quantity of clothing consisting of jackets and shirts

with hangers inside them was found on top of the bunk bed inside the hut indicating

that the clothing had all been removed from the wardrobe in one bunch and placed

or the bed. A wooden railing was found underneath the body inside the wardrobe

and this railing fitted the supports on either side of the interior of the
