Before his llegal immigration to Hong Kong. in 1971, the prisoner used to live with his parents and siblings at a self-owned stone hut at No. 37, Third Lane, Garden New Village, Canton. After arriving at Hong Kong, he mostly lived at a rented room in the district of Hung Hom, at first with some old friends from China, and later with his wife. Around the time of the offence incident, the prisoner and his wife were renting a room at a rental of $230 per month in a private tenement at 10, Whampoa Street, 5th floor. It was only since September 1979 that his wife and daughter had been granted accommodation on compassionate ground at a public housing cubicle at Room 1201, Block 7, Valley Estate, Hung Hom.
