(G) Summary

Ο

The Frisoner has come from a poor family with inadequate parental care and control. With the early death of his father, the mother has co- habited with another man for security and financial dependence. But the relationship between the Prisoner and his step-father has been disharmonious. With his unhappy home life and also his own weak and playful character, he becomes easily mixed with street urchins for peer identification and recognition. Unachieved at school, he has taken up open employment since a young age but he is unstable and has never settled down in any one job. Comments from his family and friends seem to point to the fact that his temperament is quick and hot although he is fairly sociable on the whole. All the above culminates in his transgression on law from the age of seventeen on. Although he has been given both lenicnt sentences as well as disciplinary training in confined settin, s before, this deep-rooted delinquent still has no awareness in his problems and has committed the most serious offence in his life as the present one. while the Prisoner seems to acknowledge his mistakes made in the past, he maintains his innocence in the present case and his only wish now is for a review of the death sentence.
